Precision-engineered UHV Pincer Grips for secure and controlled sample handling with Dual-Shaft Wobble Sticks, Linear-Rotary Feedthroughs and Sample Transporters.

Ferrovac Pincer Grips are designed for precise and reliable handling of sample holders in ultra-high vacuum (UHV) environments. The mechanically actuated gripping jaws allow sample holders to be securely gripped, positioned and released using the independent rotary motion of a dual-shaft manipulator.

Different pincer configurations are available to accommodate various sample holder geometries, including Flag Style Sample Holder Plates and other UHV sample carriers.

Design & Functionality

The mechanically actuated jaws provide controlled gripping and release while maintaining secure sample retention during transfer. Depending on the selected configuration, angular clearance allows the pincer to compensate for minor misalignment during sample insertion and removal.

The compact design enables precise sample manipulation in confined vacuum chambers, including sample loading, unloading and transfer between storage positions, preparation stages and measurement systems.

Configurations & Compatibility

Pincer Grips are designed for use with Ferrovac Dual-Shaft Wobble Sticks, Linear-Rotary Feedthroughs and Sample Transporters.

Different configurations are available, including straight, orthogonal and extended-reach designs. The appropriate configuration depends on the sample holder geometry, manipulator interface and required freedom of movement.

The standard clearance version (OM) provides ±8° angular movement and is particularly suitable for Wobble Sticks, where additional flexibility helps compensate for alignment deviations.

The reduced-clearance version (OMH) limits angular movement to ±2°, providing improved positioning stability for guided linear transfers with Linear-Rotary Feedthroughs and Sample Transporters.

Custom pincer designs can be developed for special sample holder geometries and application-specific requirements.

Technical Specifications

Standard Flag Style Pincer Grips feature a jaw opening angle of 26° and a maximum bakeout temperature of 200 °C.

The straight pincer increases the retracted length (Y) by 27 mm when installed on a Wobble Stick or Linear-Rotary Feedthrough. The orthogonal configuration increases Y by 9 mm, while the straight pincer for Sample Transporters increases Y by 45 mm.
